Christian Extremism
The civilized world was horrified to hear of the mass murder on July 22 in Norway of at least 76 innocent people at the hands of Anders Breivik. Adding to the tragedy has been the mainstream newsmedia's spin on the story recently labelling Mr. Breivik a "Christian Extremist." During our adult Sunday school class on 7/31/2011, we explored this issue from a biblical perspective and saw from the Bible that there is nothing to fear from Christian fundamentalism (unless you're Satan). Here's a summary of the main points of our study:
- Jesus Preached Peace (Matt. 5:9, 43-45; Rom. 12:18; Heb. 12:14)
- The Main Concern of Christians is Fulfilling the Great Commission, which is Inherently Non-Violent (Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 17:2, 17; 18:4, 19; 2 Cor. 10:4-5)
- Christianity is Multicultural (Gal. 3:28; Col. 3:11). In the Bible, there’s no such thing as a Christian culture. Instead we see people in every culture following Jesus in their culture.
- Christianity Promotes Good to All People (Matt. 5:16; Gal. 6:10)
